Spoon Creek Rodeo Bible Camp offers two Rodeo Bible Camps each year held the first part of June. We offer one camp for youth grades 5 - 8 (junior camp) and another camp for youth grades 9 - 12 (senior camp). Camps are held at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Gardner, KS..
Rodeo Bible Camp is a fun filled week of rodeo activites and games with spiritual guidence aimed at encouraging young people to deepen their personal relationship with Jesus.
We offer quality instruction in many different rodeo events: trick riding, barrel racing, pole bending, horsemanship, goat tying, breakaway roping, calf roping, team roping, steer riding, bull riding and bull fighting.
No experience is necessary to attend our camps, however they usually attract individuals who are currently participating in rodeo activities. For those that have no experience with rodeo or working with animals we would recommend you start with Horsemanship. You will learn a great deal about horses and how to care for them, some basic riding skills and how to better understand and work with your horse.
The Bible Challenge is one of many activities here at camp. When camp starts campers are divided into small groups. Each group is assigned a team leader and they are ask to come up with a name for their group. A team leader then works with his or her group helping them to learn, understand and memorize scripture. Each group is then presented with a different challenge each day to see who has best learned and understands the scripture for that day. Each group is awarded points based on their performance and the group with the most points at the end of the week wins The Bible Challenge Award. Team leaders are also there for any camper who has a need, to give support or to just talk to if a camper is having any kind of problem or issue. Team leaders sleep in the same camp facilities as the campers.
Chapel Time: This is another part of camp you just can't say enough about. Ronnie Moyer and his family have been involved with camp since it was established back in 1993. Ronnie has a gift of presenting the gospel in a way that you can really relate to and understand. Here are just a few of the things campers are saying:
Vincent Ouellette:
I'm always so tired when its over but it is always so fun and uplifting. I always learn more and more every time i'm there. Its such a spiritual booster. Since everyone Ronnie is talking to are basically kids, its all on our level.
Ashley Seals:
I loved how Ronnie presented everything in chapel, it wasn't completely over our heads but it didn't make us(well at least me) feel like we were little kids again.
Elli Ouellette:
Ronnie's message was amazing like it always is. I really liked the topic this year and I think he did a great job presenting it to us so that we didn't feel like little kids but then again it was easy to understand.
Ronnie, his wife Becky and their 3 children, Kaylee, Anne and Laramie Jo are amazing and we are very lucky to have them as a part of our camp. Ronnie and Becky make Chapel a very fun part of camp where you can learn about the word of god in a way that relates to you and your life. We also sing a lot of songs, Ronnie and Becky both play the guitar and occasionally we have a camper or two that join in as well. Everyone looks forward to Chapel time. It is a lot of fun with a lot of group participation. Oh and did I mention that chapel is held in the only air conditioned building on the grounds? It can get pretty hot sometimes in June.
Here is one of my favorites, the kitchen. Here at camp we have 3 oh yeah 3 very good meals a day prepared every day by the kitchen staff. We also have snack time with cookies and milk or something. You can't say enough about the kitchen. There is always plenty to eat and drink with plenty of snacks to go around. The kitchen staff get up at around 5:00am and start preparing food for the day. Don't be late or you may go without. Well we have never really had that problem campers and staff alike are right there in line when it comes time to eat. Who would want to pass up 3 home cooked meals a day?
Games Games Games. What camp would be complete without games. Every year we come up with several different games for the campers during game time. Depending on the weather, games may include things like:
Volley Ball, Tag, Water slides, Water fights, Balloon fights, The cup game, (if it rains and it sometimes does) mud fights in the arena. These are just a few of the games the campers enjoy at camp. I'm not sure what the attraction is with attacking the staff with water balloons, buckets of water or super soakers and things but the campers seem to enjoy that also. We never start it......... REALLY.........well maybe John and Ronnie do. I know I am already getting prepared for next year. Hey Ty remember how you setup the staff so the campers could ambush us with water balloons? Yeah so do we....................
One of the things we have never heard at camp is i'm bored or there's nothing to do.
We have a very active schedule for the campers that come to camp each year. Campers get to learn about Christ, how to properly perform rodeo, how to care for horses and livestock and how to be better cowboys and cowgirls. The last day of camp the campers will participate in a rodeo followed by an awards ceremony. Family and friends are encouraged to come to these events. Lunch will be provided for everyone.
Here is an example of a typical day as a camper:
